The Challenge

Bourne were delivering steel EPC contracts in the UK, including at the V&A and Green Park Station.

Bourne steel needed full project visibility of scope and resource from design to install of steel works. Primavera schedules were required as part of contractual obligation which also determined the quality requirements the scheduling.

Bourne needed to track actual events, and report the project to allow understanding of resources, time and changes to scope.

Our Solution

Working with Bourne managers and engineers, Baseone created project schedules from scope documentation.

Using Oracle Primavera P6 we planned project activity, resources, roles, and cost. We developed the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), tracked key milestones and events, and produced the initial baseline schedule.

From project start date we worked with Bourne to regularly update the schedules, and keep track of time spent, and work performed by the site teams.

We tracked key client interfaces and identified any out of scope work that was requested or performed. Any extra work could be claimed back from the client.

We also generated all project related reports and consulted with Bourne’s clients (Balfour Beatty) to explain the scheduling work where required.

The Results

The projects we worked on for Bourne Group were a success. Although there were delays in the schedule, they identified as caused by other parties, or were due to out-of-scope work.

On one project, 10k hours were successfully claimed as out of scope and reimbursed to Bourne Group, which led to an increased pay out of 22%.

Bourne Group also saved around £44k from working with BaseOne, as opposed to hiring an internal Project Controls team.
